With older computers, instant formatting can be a slow process it can be turned off by selecting Cite While You Write Preferences from the EN submenu/ribbon. Cite While You Write (CWYW) automatically scans the manuscript for temporary citations and formats the in-text citations and reference lists according to the active output style while you are working on the manuscript. The reference will be added to your EndNote library. Make sure you select the BibTeX Import Option (on a Mac, you may have to click Options from the bottom left corner and then Other Filters to see this import option).

If Cite While You Write is turned on, you may not see this temporary citation. Download the file, and then in EndNote, go to File - Import and find the downloaded file. You can share your citations with group members, but not the documents. You can use EndNote to search databases directly, too.
